Vehicle diagnostic systems

Modern computerized engine control systems rely on inputs from a variety of sensors.

Among the sensors found in modern computerized vehicles, the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor and the Oxygen (02) sensor are two of the most important sensors that crucially determine engine performance, emissions, and other important functions.

The OBD-II system usually takes time to identify malfunctions of these two sensors and indicate them on the dashboard.

However, a lot of fuel wastage can occur in the meantime.

The sensors do not fail suddenly, but gradually.

Therefore, it is desirable to apply a solution that detects impending failures so that they can be identified in advance.

But the most important element is undoubtedly the error detection provided by the ELM327 chip through the so-called DTCs, Diagnostic Trouble Codes i.e., diagnostic error codes covering various areas:

  • Air/fuel mixture;
  • Ignition system;
  • Auxiliary emission control;
  • Engine idling;
  • On-board computer and auxiliary outputs;
  • Transmission (gearbox);
  • Hybrid propulsion.

The solution proposed by Eureka SmartCar has some inherent advantages.

The OBD-II dongle is specially designed with the most advanced technologies that avoid interconnection problems (it integrates seamlessly with both iOS and Android smartphones).

Unlike other systems that rely on similar devices, it has an intelligent power management system that allows it not to drain the battery even if the vehicle remains unused for a long time.

In addition, at least at this stage of development, it does not require a SIM or eSIM to operate, so it does not lead to an aggravation in terms of phone costs; it uses the smartphone connection to exchange data, which is in any case efficient before sending.

It provides the highest level of privacy as it does not track vehicle location, all data is encrypted, and the user’s strictly personal information remains local on the smartphone.

It is also worth noting that the cost of the device is low and does not require installation, does not void the vehicle warranty, and can be removed at any time.

Thus, the system generates value for both the driver and the dealer who, as the system integrator, suggests its use.
